Horns of the Altar

Mark Batterson had a great post today on not ceasing prayer until you are really done with it. That sometimes we “quit praying through before the break through.” I think this is a great reminder to hold off on the ‘amen’ at the end sometimes.

War Time Walkie Talkie

Here’s a video of John Piper talking about how prayer is a war time walkie talkie, not a domestic intercom.  VERY powerful stuff!

Five Tools to Move Mountains

Posted by Chris Case On February - 22 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Artie Davis has a great article on hearing God’s voice and becoming a dangerous Christ-follower. Great insight in regards to prayer life. In this excerpt, he lists his five tools on how to increase in faith:

  1. Deep prayer. (Pray without ceasing, ask God about everything, most times its’ just a whisper in my spirit to God)
  2. Hearing God’s voice! (Listen & watch for God’s direction. It comes from His written Word, and those He speaks to you)
  3. Act on the Word from God. (MOVE! It is not in your strength now, because you are operating with God, He provides!)
  4. Expect it to be done. (This is the acid test. Are you doing EVERYTHING knowing it will be done as God said)
  5. Give God all the glory! (These are things that only one empowered by God could do, therefore give Him all the glory!)

Praying for a City Message Video

Posted by Chris Case On January - 28 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

For those who were not with us this Sunday, here’s the message video as we prayed for our city. What a powerful Sunday, as we were joined by the mayor of Smyrna, teachers, and other city officials, and got to lay hands on and pray for these individuals. What a great start so far to our 365Prayer series, and we look forward to see how all these prayers play out in the transformation of our church, our city, and our world.

Prayers for the City

Posted by Chris Case On January - 23 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

This Sunday we will be discussing praying for your city.  For us at Cumberland, we have a passion for the transformation of the Smyrna area, through the power of God.  We recognize that if we want to see God transform the city, we should be desperately seeking Him in prayer, and pray for change. Here’s a video for the Sunday sermon regarding praying for city as we pray for Smyrna:

About Me

At CCC, we are trying to break out of our walls. We are doing our best to BE the church instead of just going to church. The serving component is huge to us. We want to make a difference in our world. These days, we're just not interested in building our little Cumberland empire. In fact, we often wonder about the possibility of giving ourselves so completely away in service and mission that we wouldn't exist in 10 years! Imagine what God could do with that kind of posture?
